Brian Kingham, Chairman
With a reputation for entering underperforming markets and focussing on solid execution, Brian Kingham has founded a number of successful businesses; in the security sector Reliance Security Group plc, the market leader employing more than 13,000 people in manpower and electronic surveillance; in engineering, Norland Managed Services Ltd.
Reliance Security opened his eyes to the need to deliver pragmatic and business sensitive security solutions across the board, and in 2014 in a shift to technology he created Reliance Cyber Science. He invests globally in entrepreneurial technology businesses, understanding the need to underpin solid services through well engineered technology. He is a director of the UCL Institute of Security and Crime Science.
Justin Walker, Deputy Chairman
Justin was responsible for leading and integrating Lockheed Martin IS&GS UK/EU and then transferring the company into Leidos. Before joining Lockheed Martin, Justin had held key roles with Thales as VP Services for Land & Air Systems, VP Services for Thales UK and VP Air Operations & Managed Services.
He is recognised for the successful transformation and growth of services business. He also led the launch of Thales Alenia Space UK and held various other roles at Thales, including Vice President of Strategy, Business Development and Marketing where he managed joint ventures and partnerships, acquisitions and divestitures as well as delivered strategy implementation, transformational sales, growth and profit improvement, for about a 1/3 of Thales group over 4 years.
Andy Dancer, Advisory Member
After a variety of marketing and technology roles with large plc’s Andy found his passion innovating world leading technology for high growth companies. He built eCommerce in the 90s, content management before most people realised they needed it, and email encryption before Wiki leaks and Snowdon became household names.
A serial founder, and veteran of multiple exits, the most recent was to global security provider Trend Micro where Andy spent 5 years as a director in the global innovation team and latterly as EMEA CTO and MD of the UK business. Today Andy works as an Investor and director in several high growth companies.
Stephen Ball, Board Member
Throughout his career in technology Stephen Ball has been noted for his substantial experience with turnaround and strategic growth in both private and public sector businesses.
During his time as Chief Executive Officer at Lockheed Martin, Stephen advanced their organic growth and acquisition of people as well as increasing their compound annual sales growth whilst shaping strategic advisory Boards for key countries in International portfolios. Previously, Stephen had been CEO at HMGCC were he implemented an imaginative business plan, enhancing core technical capability and sharpening focus on cost control.
Stephen is a member of Royal United Services Institute Advisory Council and is Honorary Doctor of Science.
Paul Winstanley, Advisory Member
Paul started his career as a research scientist in the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
On the privatisation of the MoD research laboratories to QinetiQ Paul took on a wider technical leadership role and was later promoted to become QinetiQ’s youngest ever Technical Director.
Paul’s final role in QinetiQ was as the President and CEO of QinetiQ Inc. Paul decided to repatriate to the UK and create his own strategic development consultancy. Here Paul’s focus is on the creation of new business and value realization from market diversification in the defence and security sectors and internationally (UK, Europe and USA). Paul now combines advisory and executive operational roles, the combination of interests that underpinned his desire to form Alazen.
Nick Jennings, Advisory Member
Professor Nick Jennings CB, FREng is Vice-Provost (Research) at Imperial College. He is responsible for promoting, supporting and facilitating the College’s research performance and for leading on the delivery of the Research Strategy. Nick also holds a chair in Artificial Intelligence in the Departments of Computing and Electrical and Electronic Engineering . Before joining Imperial, Nick was the Regius Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton (where he is still a Visiting Professor) and the UK Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor for National Security.
Professor Jennings is an internationally-recognized authority in the areas of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cybersecurity and agent-based computing.
Tom Ilube, Advisory Member
Tom Ilube is CEO and founder of Crossword Cybersecurity plc, the ISDX listed technology transfer company. He was until recently Managing Director of Consumer Markets at Callcredit Information Group. Prior to Callcredit, Tom founded and was CEO of Garlik, a venture capital-backed identity protection company, sold to Experian in 2011.
Tom chaired the UK Government Technology Strategy Board’s Network Security Innovation panel. He was a member of the High Level Expert Group on Cybersecurity at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a Geneva based UN-agency. In 2008 Garlik was selected as a World Economic Forum, Davos, Technology Pioneer and Tom was invited to attend the forum, chairing and participating in panels on cybersecurity and broader technology issues.
Peter Martin, Managing Director
Peter started at Legal and General before moving to Digital Equipment, where he spent 8 years as an operating system and network specialist. This was followed by a change of career to manage a small portfolio of technology investments and consult. This led to 15 years in IT security, starting of as a founder of NXL, which subsequently became part of Verizon, and then starting Reliance acsn.
Peter has helped the company grow organically every year for the last decade to a position where we now advise 80 clients in 50 cities on how to manage their security engineering risks.
Eamon Flavin, Managing Director
Eamon began his career at Digital Equipment Corporation in 1988 where he specialised in UNIX and security. After travelling the world as an independent IT security consultant, he co-founded NXL in 1996 to provide leading-edge IT security solutions in the emerging internet security space, helping clients implement firewall and security solutions. Ubizen acquired NXL in 2000, with Eamon becoming the Global Head of Professional Services shortly after.
In 2003, Eamon co-founded Reliance acsn and works closely with our clients on a daily basis, advising on and solving their varied IT security management challenges.
Michael Clifford, Managing Director
Michael has over 25 years’ experience in selling complex high value business solutions to global 1000 organizations, growing direct and indirect sales operations revenues with significant quota. Michael has gained experience working for Enterprise and ‘Start-Up’ technology businesses; Hewlett Packard to Netstore (a successful start-up that IPO’d in 2000) selling leading edge technologies – Security, Unified Communications, Big Data and Cloud.
He has a proven history of turning around failing sales teams and businesses through effective tactical and strategic action plans that achieve growth and deliver quota in a competitive market place. A very strong team builder and, a good coach with excellent customer and employee communication skills.
Gary Evans, CTO
Gary has been helping organisations across the globe architect, build and security test their infrastructure. He has worked as a penetration tester, security analyst, engineer and architect across local and global projects. Gary is SC cleared with numerous industry certifications.
Gary has been with Reliance acsn since the beginning and has helped us grow to the successful company it now is – with what must be one of the highest customer retention rates in the industry.
